Semi-Custom Cabinets or Cabinetry
Semi-custom cabinets provide great value for money, while still maintaining many of the quality features of custom cabinets. For instance, the center panel of most door styles offered by a semi-custom cabinet manufacturer is made of solid wood, as opposed to a veneer. Solid wood center panels will take the stain better than veneer, so your center panels look as good as the door frame and cabinet panels.
Semi-custom cabinets are pre-made or made-to-order cabinets that are carefully selected from the manufacturer’s catalogs. These cannot be individually customized, but the selection of different types and sizes is so large that for all practical purposes, individual customization has very few limitations. The craftsmanship can vary between manufacturers and product lines. This is definitely a market where price can be your guide for quality.

Factory or stock cabinets are the least expensive alternative, but the style choices are limited. It's similar to buying a base-model car rather than one that's fully loaded. You'll find only a limited number of selections in wood, shape, or design.
If you're not planning to live in your house for the long haul, or if it's a rental property, this is the way to go. If money is tight, you may consider purchasing factory cabinets and then possibly spruce them up a bit.
