We continued our monthly Partners in Design series in June with an inspiring and fun event, featuring Yohana Ferra Veloso of Habana Delights. Yohana joined us in our Lansing, MI showroom on June 20, 2023, to share her story about her journey from Cuba to America, her life in the Lansing area, and her amazing business featuring a distinctive pink food truck. This one-of-a-kind business is a gem in our community, offering a selection of authentic Cuban food and desserts as well as catering services.
Yohana always loved baking and started as a young woman in Cuba where she often did not have access to standard baking ingredients. Key ingredients like sugar and flour were sometimes in short supply, so she had to learn to be creative when baking. Nonetheless, she loved preparing beautiful cakes and desserts for family, friends, and her local community, so she became resourceful and learned to use what she had.
She always dreamed of coming to the United States and opening her own cake shop. After settling in the United States, her children went to school and graduated as valedictorian of their high school graduating classes. Yohana also learned English, how to drive, and how to operate a food truck. As the entire family found a new life, she started exploring ways to make her dream of starting her own baking business a reality. She joined the RDC Business Entrepreneurship Group in 2018 and the Lansing Economic Area Partnership program called One and All. Through these groups, she learned about opening a local business, met other area entrepreneurs, and started on her path to becoming a business owner!
She now runs a successful local food business called Habana Delights, operating out of a unique pink food truck. She brings authentic Cuban food to her community in the Lansing area, featuring delicious sandwiches, sweet treats, and much more. She has a unique menu every day! Yohana still hopes to open her own cake shop one day, and we are sure she has the baking and business talent, dedication, and drive to achieve that goal. Everyone was so impressed with her personal and business story, and we all loved the delicious samples she brought along for everyone to try, including tarts, eclairs, Napoleons, cakes, meringues, and more.

On July 18, 2023, we will welcome Summer Schriner of Grace Boutique of Old Town to our Lansing, MI showroom for our next Partners in Design event. Grace Boutique came to life from Summer’s own love of classic styles and beautiful design, as well as a strong affinity to the Old Town Lansing area. Her passion for fashion is infectious and we can’t wait to hear about her story as an entrepreneur and to learn all about glamorous, classic fashion tips and ideas.
